Bohemian Style In Pop Culture Today

Little else portrays an individual’s personality like their sense of style. It’s fascinating how much you can tell about a person just based on their outfits or the furniture in their homes. These choices are induced by multiple factors – culture, tastes you pick up during your travels, the influence of social media, your lifestyle choices, personal values, and more. From minimalism to vintage, to grunge, to shabby chic – it’s intriguing how vast and distinctive these labels are.

In a world increasingly governed by rules and customs, it’s delightful to witness one particular style that is so diverse in itself and not bound by rigid rules. In fact, it’s a lifestyle! Its beauty lies in how unconventional and eclectic it is. It embodies an enchanting mix of art, culture, music, literature, wanderlust, adventure, mythology, spirituality, and individuality. If you haven’t guessed already, I’m talking Bohemian. No wonder it has gained tremendous popularity in recent times. Who doesn’t want to be free-spirited and live by their own unique ideals and principles?

Many famous people have embraced Bohemian fashion and lifestyle both on camera and in their personal lives. Let’s take a look at some popular examples:

Mega popular K-pop band BTS has perfected the Boho look on several occasions. Kim Taehyung, also known as V, looked very boho chic in a printed shirt and sling bag in one of his photos. The outfits donned by the members in Airplane Pt. 2 are quintessentially Bohemian – from Suga’s tasseled shirt, Jimin’s floral blouse, Jungkook’s velvet robe with the tiny mirrors, Jin’s printed pants, Namjoon’s patterned vest, Taehyung’s glasses and semi-sheer vintage robe with the fringed sleeves, to Hoseok’s all-white outfit with the patterned robe on top. Their hats, scarves, headbands, bracelets, and rings are very stylish and boho. Even their surroundings have a very eclectic aesthetic with the colored glass panes in the door frame and the vivid colored walls.

It is amazing to consider that a style that originated in the nineteenth century is as relevant and popular today as ever. Yes, you read that right! The first documented reference to Bohemian attitude is found in French literature published in 1851. It was a big departure from the formal French society of that era and was, not surprisingly, looked down upon and derided by the aristocrats. Boho literally means Bohemian Homeless – gypsy nomads from the Bohemian region.

Distinctive patterns arising from the free-flowing creativity of the Gypsies stood the test of time and were adopted by various groups of people over the last 170 years. While being non-conformist, the Boho is still stylish and ticks all the boxes of modern fashion checklists.

Since Boho is an attitude to life, it is not limited to dressing, it extends to décor, food, and more. In short, it is a way of life that is chic and colorful, using natural elements that bring about a casual yet stylish feel.

It is individualistic, deeply personal, eclectic, and ever-evolving – that is the secret of its longevity. As long as the human mind craves freedom and variety, Boho will remain relevant.
